Many thousands of the Arab-Muslims who can actually trace their ancestry back 2 centuries or more in Israel are actually Jews -- FORCED converts to Islam.  Because of relentless Muslim persecution of kaffirun – non-believers – many Arab Jews who still lived in their original, Biblical homelands, were forced to accept Islam in order to survive, but (like the Marranos in Spain) they maintained their Jewish practices in secret.  Many Arab-Muslims in Israel are still aware of their earliest Jewish heritage.
